The WVU Figure Skating Club is our sister club. These are WVU University athletes who compete in collegiate events nationwide. As many members of WVUFSC are also members of MDFSC, we try to support each other whenever possible!
Our collegiate skaters also teach synchronized skating. Mountain State Synchronized Skating is a beginner skating skills initiative recognized by US Figure Skating for bringing new ice sports to the Mountain State, and is currently the only synchronized skating program for youth in WV. Synchronized skating is a unique sport that teaches teamwork and leadership skills, while also allowing athletes to work on improving their own individual skating skills.
MSSS is a great opportunity for younger skaters, ages 5 to 14, and of all skill levels. From first time beginners to competitive figure skaters and even hockey players, every skater can learn and benefit from being on a synchro team. We provide students with essential lessons in the basic skills that will develop and build through the year to eventually be able to perform with their peers as a synchro skating team. Basic and Synchro Skills are taught in conjunction with Learn To Skate USA curriculum and guidelines. As sister program of WVU Figure Skating, MSSS is coached by collegiate skaters that are certified instructors and compliant with SafeSport, US Figure Skating, and the Professional Skaters Association.
We hope to help new athletes discover a passion for ice skating!
